Romania remains a growing market for U.S. food and agriculture exports. As of early 2024, the country’s population stood at just over 19 million, a slight decline from the previous year, with roughly 48 percent still residing in rural areas. Inflation improved significantly, averaging about 5.1 percent in 2024 compared to 10.4 percent in 2023. Romania’s total agricultural imports in 2024 were estimated at \$15.3 billion, up 4.6 percent from the previous year, with around 80 percent sourced from EU Member States. Germany, Hungary, Poland, and the Netherlands remained key trading partners, while Ukraine also maintained a notable presence. Meat, dairy, grains, oilseeds, and beverages continued to dominate Romania’s agricultural import categories.
