Turkey Retail Foods 2025
Amid ongoing economic headwinds, Türkiye’s retail food sector continues to expand, driven by a young population of 85 million and a growing middle class. The market is dominated by domestic discount chains, and the majority of food products on store shelves are produced locally. Imported consumer-oriented food items account for only 4–5 percent of Türkiye’s nearly $95 billion in annual grocery sales. Despite this, the United States was the largest foreign supplier of consumer-oriented products in the previous year, with tree nuts leading the category. U.S. walnuts, almonds, cranberries, dates, and wine show strong sales potential. However, U.S. products face stiff competition from European Union countries that benefit from preferential access under a Customs Union agreement and lower freight costs.
